Bird 998c cannot find depth

Fished today in 20 mph wind. The fish were right against the bank on cypress trees. I did really well but my 998c stopped reading depth and is unable to find bottom. It just constantly searches. I was in 1-2foot water when this happen d and it did not straighten out when I got into deeper water. The cable to the trans looks good and I have it mounted to the troll motor with a trans saver as well. Any ideas, it has never done this in the 3 years I have had it. It also does not side scan either.

Check pins/connection. If you have another unit or transducer might try swapping to see if same results
