    Mercmonitor install external ground location?

I've installing a Mercmonitor and I've got the main cable ran back to motor and Don said on the external power, I need to hook up to a good ground. What's the best spot/place at the console to hook up the ground?

The reason I got the Mercmonitor is because the Phoenix gas/trim gauge did not work so I just cut the wires to the Phoenix gauge and wired in the Mercmonitor. The Mercmonitor works great

Also, laying loose in the console is a purple and black wire, the black has "JACK" on it. Anyone know what those are for?

My gauges work so don't want to cut those. I did replace my tach with the monitor so I could tap into those maybe but really looking for something else if there is any other option.

I'm don't have a network if that makes a difference.

I had added a fuse box in my dash for other things and connected the ground from MM to the fuse box.

I wouldn't cut any wires that hook to the motor....If I'm not mistaken the MM gets it power from motor when turned on.

Yea, Don told me to hook up the ground on the external power but I didn't have to hook up the power side unless I had a network or was going to add one.

The pigtail that says external power. Don told me to connect the ground but I didn't have to connect the power side. Confused me a little cause I figured everything should power and ground through the harness to the motor. I can call him tomorrow to make sure but if there was something easy and close to ground to, I was just going to ground that wire and move on.

Ok....i do believe that is for the nmea connection.....you can power up a nmea network thru the MM but if you already have the network, you can not power it up twice. That could be an emergency connection if something ever happened to the other power supply.....he told me the same, either dont connect the positive or if you do remove the fuse so....i opted not the connect it.

Yes, just ground the wire and be done.....

You got it. Behind my panel there were two spare wires with butt splices on the end. I used the ground from that, and wired my NMEA into the "Accessory" switch on the bottom of the control panel. Two position rotary that isn't used for anything - on my boat at least.

Do you happen to have the part # for this? Shouldn't be different for a 250 should it? Thanks!
