Nitro 882 Vs. Triton Tr186 Used Boat Opinions

Hey guys, this is my first time posting on here but I have been reviewing the threads for years. I am looking to upgrade from my current boat, a 2004 ProCraft 165 with a 90, to a larger boat. I have been looking for a while and plan on buying soon but I was wondering what opinions were out there on early to mid 2000 boats. I have narrowed my search down to either a Nitro 882 or a triton tr186. Either boat would most likely have a mercury 150 xr6 and I was wondering what thoughts you guys have on the ride, speed, and organization of each boat. I am also open to other opinions on the likes of rangers, stratos, and champion boats at the 18-19 foot range for the same years. Thanks for your thoughts.

I owned an 882 for 6 months and my buddy has a 186 so I've been in and driven both. I would choose the Triton for 2 reasons. The 186 has a bigger front deck and more leg room in the driver console. Plus it is 4 inches longer because if memory serves me the 882 is only 18ft 2in.

Ive owned Stratos, Hydrosport, Dynatrack, and now Triton. Been in just about all others. My personal first choice in mid 2000's in that size range would be a Champion, just because of the ride factor in rough water. All the others are very good boats, probably not a nickles worth of difference in any of them. Biggest thing to look at would be the motor condition. Ride in a few, fish from them if you can, and pick the one YOU like that suits you best. EVERYONE has different wants and expectations from a boat, so get what you like.
BTW...I do like my TR-186 Good luck in your search!

Brother in law has an 882 and it's a fine boat. I'm sure the Triton is a fine rig also. I have a 2002 BassCat Sabre that's a good boat.

The TR-186 is an awesome boat!
Large front deck and storage out the wazoo.

I too had a pro 165 and upgraded to a nitro... so I thought. Boat handled water worse than my procraft. Road rough, trailered heavy, wood transoms, rub rail screws all leaked. In my opinion don't buy a 882. Owned 4 boats, that was the only one I regret and sadly because of that 06 882 I will never buy another nitro. On the plus side, the xr6 is a great motor and I really liked the motor

I appreciate the feedback. Yes, I am upgrading size more than year but i am looking at about the same year. I will likely keep the triton as my preferred choice unless I find a deal on something else. I also like the champion but those are hard to find because most people never get rid of them. I know my buddy loves his.

I owned a 2004 NX 882 and now own a 2008 Triton TR186 and I would advise you to go with the Triton. As stated above the XR6 is a great motor though.

Triton, Not much to say about the older Nitro.
But I would say which ever has the best check out on the engine I would go with.
Its going to be a huge expense to replace or rebuild the engine.

Mid 2000 probably won't be a XR6 its a carb motor and a very dependable engine, though not so good on gas.
I was looking in 2004 and they there all injected and not very reliable on any brand. I went with Honda.

The Triton is by far a better built boat than the 882. I own an 882 but I got it for next to nothing(repo).

I would pick the triton over the nitro hands down, that being said, if I were looking for the size and year you mentioned, I would be looking for a 188 champion. I know a guy that has one, not sure the year but in the mid 2k range, i really like that little boat.
