Owned a 2006 tr-186 with a 150 opti, great riding boat and built to last. My buddy has a 2005 882 with a 150 xr6. The 882 with the xr6 is a faster top end boat but it does not ride as well as the triton. It has been a great boat for him with no issues, the xr6 is a great motor. My vote is for the triton and I am sure my buddy would say the same.

Not sure if anyone will see this, but how about a triton vs. a ranger from similar year models so tr186 vs. any of the 18 foot rangers from the early to mid 2000s

Triton. Had a 05 nx 882 and the jack plate bolts were pulling right through the transom. Didn't handle rough stuff very well either.

I was looking for a boat in the 18' range in my price range. Considered several Tritons and Rangers...ended up in a Champion 187. Not a regret about it.

I have an 07 Procraft Super Pro 200 that I really like. They are good boats for the money in my opinion. Why not look for a ProCraft.

Well first off although the XR6 is s good motor why not keep looking until you find one with a better motor that is fuel injected? XR6 is a carb motor and will use a lot more gas and oil than a Opti will.

In the mid 2000's for a boat in the 18 ft range you have several choices. I know I was looking for the same thing for about 2 years until I found the one I wanted. I found a Ranger 185 VS with a 150 Opti with 260 hrs on it. Almost new condition. Keep looking they are out there.

As to the two you mention, I would take the Triton hands down.

regardless what direction you go, check out the trailer for rust and hull for blisters.

I appreciate all of the feedback. As far as motor goes I have nothing against an optimax and would even be interested in a yamaha; my biggest issue is just finding a clean boat for a good price. I am a college angler so money is pretty scarce and I am limited in my range of what I look at. Also NDbass13, I wouldn't turn down a larger procraft for the right price, but I haven't seen but one on craigslist in my browsing over the past couple months.

My son just bought a 2000 Blazer 202 with a 250 Pxs. Really likes it so far. We looked at a lot of junk before we found this one though. It's his first boat.

Nice, those 250 mercury will run, especially on a blazer
