    Opti or ProXs

I blew my old EFI and am looking to get another motor. The shop I want to deal with will be getting an 04 opti 225 and a 06 pro xs in here soon. Both motors have just been rebuilt and will come with a 1 year warranty. The proXS is $1100 more. Which motor would you get any why?

His signature says 1998 if thats the one hes talking about.
Im another advocate for rebuilding the EFI. Its a way more reliable motor than those optis

I'll take a blown efi motor over a running opti any day.

Well the ProXS will do that, but maybe you should search "compressor" on here first.

Its not much better efficiency in reality. Those optis wont save you enough over 5yrs to pay for one compressor and fuel rail cleaning

Yep, that's why I want him to search the compressor threads.

Pro XS is going to be faster than an Opti. I would go with the Pro XS.

The pro xs is a plain ole opti. The sport xs is a plain ole opti with a sportmaster lower. Those are not the merc racing motors

    To answer OP question
Get the ProXS, buy a new compressor every 200 hours.
Takes $20 a gal oil instead of $40 a gallon.

    ProXS max RPM 6000
    Opti max RPM 5750
Gives the ProXS the potential to be faster.

I've got an 02 Merc Opti 225 hp. The only mechanical issue I have ever had was a fuel pump.

I've been told the Pro XS is basically the same as an Opti. I don't know.

But I have to say, the things I just read about Merc Optis didn't apply to me at all.

    Good luck,

    Danny

Make sure the regular Opti has carbon reeds instead of the steel reeds and I bet there isn't a mph difference in most hulls. I'd save (I've owned both) the 1100. Actually if you know where the EFI has been and exactly who's rebuilding it for that money that's the way I'd go over an unknown swap.

The opti routine maintenance can be expensive..that's ANY DFI!

$4,500 to rebuild your powerhead is a little high. Also what is the price of the 06 pro xs? that motor shouldn't be but $5000. at the most.

Also check the price of having the fuel injection system clean and tested for the optimax and the replacement of Direct Air Injectors. If I had to choose again I would go with EFI because of the opti air injectors and air compressor. Also mixing 150:1 oil ratio in my gas to help keep the Air injectors lubricated. There is some reference to this in the mercury forums.
