Keel guard installation advice!

UPDATE: I just finished up on the keel guard removal. And started at 7 am. So 12 hours of nonstop labor other than a 5 min lunch break. She is like a mirror once again. It cost me 80-100 bucks in adhesive remover and was a PITA!!! I hope to never have to do that again. After the long tedious process of adhesive removal and a bunch of words I won't repeat, I gave here a quick wet sand and a thorough buff job with the orbital. I think I am going to go guard-less for now and do not want to cover up the wings. She is like a mirror so it's hard to get the shop floor reflection out of the photo.

Yep cleaned up a few other scratches I had under there while I was at it. Then finished off with protec sealant.

My hamby was installed on the triton from the dealer very low and sits underwater when level. It's been like this for 5 years with no issues just yet. Only benefit i can think of is a bumper against floating logs. The hamby formula is a lot tougher than anything else.

Usually that's a good thing but it'll be damn near impossible to replace it now...

Another thing I noticed, even though the guard was only peeling 3-4 inches on the front,the entire keel guard was water logged and stunk like mildew. Maybe it's just me but I don't really like that thought of a water logged guard on my keel. I would have been very unhappy if I found blisters under there.

When I installed mine, the final instructions was to run a bead of silicone around the keel guard, which I did. Guess that was to keep it from absorbing water.

Yes this one did have the silicone bead.

So had silicone and still came off?? Dang.....my guess was that it already started coming off and got water in it prior to full removal by you....
