Does anyone know the secret to installing a skirt on this type of jighead? I have tried many different ways and have yet to find a good way. I ruined many skirts. Thanks in advance.

Use wire or thread and hand tie it on
That jig head looks like it was intended for a swim bait more than a skirt. The wire is used to hold on a solid body bait (insert a toothpick crossways in front of the wires bend to really hold it on) and the collar is used for a hollow body bait.
If you're determined to add a skirt try filing off a little of the collar till the skirt band won't break.
i think it will easily go over the keeper, but the collar looks to be the problem. might need an O-ring shape skirt band.
