    2008 SeaStar Hydraulic Steering Manual

1B556161 - 2008 Mercury 250 Pro XS. Boat is at the mech right now, can't check the hyd steering model #. Anybody have their seastar model # that's on their boat same year? Trying to find a diagram for a seal kit needed.

    Thanks!

    Found the manual. http://www.seastarsolutions.com/wp-c...3/296784AT.pdf

Where the pivot mount connects to the mounts on the cylinder, I have some slop in the steering. It's about 1/8th of an inch gap at the widest when the steering is engaged before the pivot mount contacts the cylinder mount and starts to push the cylinder to steer. I do see there are washers there, but nowhere near thick enough to take up the slop. There are bolts in the end of the cylinder mounts that attach to the pivot mount - however I don't think tightening them would take up that much slop and I'd be concerned over cracking those pieces. Is there a simple fix for this to tighten up my steering?

Hmmmm. It's been like this for quite a while. Do they have replacement parts or need to replace the whole dang thing?

Send it back to sea star and have it rebuilt.

Didn't know that was an option - thanks for the suggestion. What would they do to rebuild it since it has such a large gap?

I see hundreds of these cylinders each year. On average- about 2 years before the end bushings exceed the max spec (.020" clearance).

Used to send them off for rebuild... but am now using a Mercury Branded (U-Flex) cylinder that's a direct replacement. Far more robust tiller plate, and not subject to this particular problem.

Regardless- consider this a SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I would not operate that boat again until it's been addressed!

I had the same exact issue and there is no fix, it has to be rebuilt. I just purchased a new one on Ebay for $380. Better off just buying a new one.
