96 skeeter 200zx
I have a 96 200zx,The motor is a 2003 mercury 225 efi. i run a 25p tempest with cup added by holeshot propellers.. At 3.5 ptp i run 5800 rpms and get 60.7. raise it to 2.5ptp 5700 61.3. I hav raised it to 1.5 ptp 5850 rpm 60. Water pressure is 28 on my gauge so thats not a issue. Before i started playing with props it had a 25p trophy 2.5 ptp 5800 66.7. But the boat handled like crap with the trophy.. Thats why i went to a 3 blade.. plus i wanted more speed. What can i do to get the boat set up to run like it should. Thanks. Posted in the skeeter form but guess here is better..

Tempest is the correct prop, your prop guy might not be all that.
Skeeters want all the bow lift they can get, they want to compress air under the hull to achieve their potential, when you raise the motor too high, you'll start losing that lift, especially with a full load.
I'd find a KNOWN good tempest and give it a try. Set it at 3 1/2" and see if it picks that hull up and lets it run like it can. Tweak from there, but I'm seriously suspecting that prop.

Not that I need to say it,but Pat is right.

Did you have the prop worked or someone else? Something's way off with the numbers and if you had the work done I'd send it back to Brian and have him work it again.

I'm curious- isn't that a 200hp rated hull?

It is rated for a 200. The guy i bought it from had already changed it to the 225.. I had the prop worked at holeshot propellers.. I am knot blaming him at all as i know the motor is to high.. Just wondering where is the perfect height and 3.5 ptp i only get 60 and it stays that way all the way up on the jack plate..

#1 Rule of setup, take it too far and bring it back. You have to find out what too high and too low really is, it takes time and you must make small moves to find your right spot, but 1/4" at a time both ways until you lose speed/lift/pressure and then and only then can you know where you really need to be. Shortcuts? Nope.
