How many guys are using group 27 batteries?

I have two group 27's for my trolling motor and need to buy two new ones. I'd like to go up to group 29 but don't really have the room and the battery tray. Does anyone run 27's and have them last all day? My current batteries get really weak at the end of the day.

I run dual 27's in my Lund and did so in my R91 Ranger for 14 years. Like you, I would have had to swap out battery trays to go with a larger battery. Since the 27's would last me 5 years, they were obviously large enough to do the job I needed.

Battery trays are $9 on amazon and take about two minutes to swap out. I'd go with the 29's...

Aren't trays the same for 24-27 and 29-31? Why not score 31's?

Running four grp 27's, one cranking and three for 36V troller, way too small according to common wisdom, but it works for me.

I use a Deka 27M6 to crank my 225 OPTI and to handle a lot of electronics such as dual power poles, HDS12 and 9, Sirius Weather antenna, Point1, two livewell pumps (hopefully running all day), two bilge pumps, Lighting throughout, hydrowave and several other things I missed. Never fails to work perfectly including the lakes I run my boat on that are limited horsepower where you can only run the outboard for loading onto the trailer.

Use 2 27's for my Terrova 80. Run them 10-12 hours no problem. Last two weekends crazy wind no issues.
    Please release me,let me go.

Been running 27s on my trolling batteries for about 10 years. Keep water levels correct and they've held up well. Only had to replace them 2X in those 10 years.

This was my setup as well but after 6 years, I changed the batteries and went to 31s (the 29 Everstart Maxx has been replaced by the 31).

Thanks for all the input. I ordered two group 29's, any luck they will fit in my existing tray. If not I'll order new trays. I think I'd be better off with group 29 for extra run time.

I run 27s on my 36v but I wouldn't try it on a 24v. I could run down my old 24v set up with 31 series in half a day fishing some pretty stout wind.

I had a 27 tray in my old boat. I needed a battery while fishing so I just cut one side out of it and the battery fit just fine.

That's really weird... I could run my 80# in a deep V hull aluminum boat in the crazy wind and current of the St Lawrence river for an 8 hour day no problem and I had 27s. On the little lake up at the campground, you're not allowed gas motors and the same boat could go a full day of tooling around the lake with no issues and enough power to go out the next morning. Maybe because the boat weighs less than a glass boat despite blown around more easily by the wind?

I only bought 31s because the 27s were impossible to find.. it's like Walmart Canada is having a real problem getting these batteries in stock.

I've heard the 27's will work fine with a 36 volt system. But on a 24 volt system they tend to deplete by the end of a hard day of fishing. The interstates I just got are srm29 and have a reserve capacity of 210. Should be a substantial increase in run time over my old 27's

i ran three 31's in my old stratos with a 109lb motorguide - and really didn't see any advantage - i run 27's on my maxxum 80 in my current boat without issues.

You can either buy new trays for your 29/31 or cut one side as Stretch suggested. I cut one side on my cranking battery tray and it works fine. Dremel works....I think I used Dykes to cut through however.
