    NRX recommendations

Hey guys I am currently using a dx 744 for t-rigs under a 1/2 oz paired up with a core 50mg7. Been thinking about replacing it and trying out a NRX. Which model would work best for this application? Ive never fished a NRX but held them at cabelas several times. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would go with the NRX 853C JWR.

I prefer 7'4" ish over 7 ft. Most of the places i fish has lots of wood and bushes with stained water. Normally use 17 to 20 pound floro. Need the backbone to move fish out of cover and still be able to go down to 1/4 oz wieght when needed.

NRX 873 CRR would be ideal. In my opinion, the 853 or 893 are too light in power for those duties. Check out the deals at The Tackle Trap on the NRX rods...

873 likely ideal per prior posts. I use the 894 for such applications and love it.

Thanks everyone. I will take a look at the 873. What is your opinion on the 895 jwr. Is this going to be too much rod?

Too much rod is an understatement. That rod is VERY powerful, and VERY tip heavy.

I would look at either the 873 or 894. I have both and use the 873 for the apps you mention, and the 894 for 1/2 oz jigs and up.

Ok. How does the 873 compare to a dx 744 and 784ml? Curious if action and power are similar. Sorry for all the questions. Just want to be sure I pick the right one before pulling the trigger. Thanks

The NRX is so much more sensitive in my hands, it's not even a fair comparison. The action, taper, and power of the 873 is ideal for your intended uses, you'll be very happy with that rod I think.

I have read some stuff about reel seat issues on these rods. Has anyone here had this problem?

Yes - early on, there was a manufacturing problem that has LONG since been resolved. Some rods still in circulation have the defective issue, but are replaced at no cost to the consumer should a failure occur. It's nothing to worry about.

Faster tip on the 873 for sure. And obviously not as long as the 784. I have both the 873 and the 784. If I'm going to bomb long casts with 1/2 - 3/4 oz jigs and wobbleheads, I go with the 784, the 784 isn't as sensitive as the 873, but it's sensitive enough. 873 is a wonderful c-rig rod. I don't use my 873 for jigs and such, but it appears lots of folks do and are happy with it.

I have both an 853 and an 873.

I use the 853 for weightless senkos and flukes. Texas rigs and 3/8 finesse jigs.

Anything higher or with a heavy trailer I go to 873. Works great with 1/2 football jigs plus trailer.
