I lived in Sandbridge in 1981 and fished Back Bay at the Refuge by wading and caught as many bass as I wanted up to 7 and 8#s. Things sure have changed over the years but a canoe or kayak can be launched around the refuge and I hear some bass are being caught. Hellspoint creek has always been a local hotspot. Good luck and let us know how you do

Where is the typical transition from fresh to salt in Back Bay?

No salt water in Back Bay. Watch out for shallow water and old duck blinds. Many a local has torn up lower units and pushed their boat off a shallow bar. Back Bay is only 6-7 feet in the deepest spots.
