Ran the boat today with the cleaned up prop, don't know if made a difference or not. I still got a lot of learning to do.
honestly you should find someone in your area that has mastered an Allison and get some lessons lol. Im sure they wont mind going burn your gas while giving you lessons.
Sounds like you're getting there. Take your time and learn what works at the lower speeds so you will know what to do if you get in trouble running fast. As others have stated, you'll be flying before you know it.
What do you mean by lower speed? I'm till about 65 then I have work it to make 70. From 70 on it wants to get to squirrely.
Took me 10 trips before i could run wot more then 10 secs. Like catfish says get used to 65-75 and the rest will come easy
I checked prop to pad this evening. The prop shaft is 1/8th below pad. Got the new trim sensor adjusted now I know where neutral trim is on the guage. I also found other places besides the prop shaft to put a level on when checking prop to pad. I ran it yesterday after raising the motor and it seemed to be better.
My motor was out of "plumb" with the boat. After fixing that my prop is now even with the pad.
I think that I may have figured out how to drive my boat. I was driving it about 75 with a buddy in the boat. I hardly would chine at all. I took him to the ramp and dropped him off. I left the trim where it was while doing 75, just above neutral trim. Now I can hardly do 65 with out it getting squirrely (I know that I can trim down and it will drive better). I started working the wheel a little here and there, little more speed, work the wheel some more. Twice it got on pad and got really bad. I corrected it. All I can say about it is that it reminds me of driving a 2wd truck down an iced over road and fish tailing the truck back and forth while keeping it a generally straight line.
Try to find someone that is familiar with driving an Allison and ride with them. You will save yourself a lot of time and frustration.
I had an experienced allison driver with me today, and it rode just fine until I dropped him off.
65-75 is the hardest spot. Once you master that it will be smooth sailing. They pack air and stabilize
I know this. That is why I wanted to run it like I did, to see the exaggerated handling and try to learn something from it. And I did learn from it. Pretty sure that I can't do 95mph tomorrow but I did learn what I need to do to drive this boat on pad. I'm looking foward to doing it again saturday.
Sounds like your getting the feel for it. Some more seat time and you will be blowing past the 70's like its nothing :)
Sounds like some ballast on the passenger side would help.
