That was my big problem, I almost think I was trying to correct before I needed to. Takes time and fuel. Yeah and my 03 never liked jumping out of the gas quick...
Guys, setup is a big part of how your boats are handling. Front to rear balance is important as well. My '03 liked the rear heavy.
A ProMax prop worked well on my '03 and it handled well with it on there.
It's all about timing and feel in our boats. I had a blast learning to drive mine and thankfully my wife was patient and trusted me to not do something stupid. It'll hit you when you catch the boat just right and you'll know you got it. Progressively increasing speed cautiously and learning to come down from speed is just as important as getting up to speed.
I have an XB21 Prosport and am still green.. but coming down from speed seems to be very touchy... as far as going goes.. in my boat once I get the trim up to about 6.5 - 7 on the smartcraft. . It feels like the drift sock you've been pulling let's go and you're free.. I have only really run the boat pretty much completely empty and without the trolling motor.. completely unbalanced with my 250lb ass in the driver's seat... part of my thinking is that if I can learn to drive it under those less than ideal conditions then the rest should be easier. . Anot her scary observation is that it seems easier to drive over 80 than say 60... that can give a false sense if security that can get you in a bind quickly I would imagine.. I would just say take your time and it will come.. just don't get frustrated with it because you're learning every second you're in that seat whether you realize it or not!
Are you still having set-up and driving issues bud? Are you on FB?
Join Texas Boat Boyz and go ride with us if you aren't on there already. We ride on the neches, Sabine and San jac a lot. I'll show you some tips on driving or if I'm not there someone else will for sure some very good Allison drivers in our group.
most people tend to overdrive an Allison, it takes very little wheel input to keep it rolling. I teach people to drive by the seat of your pants, if you drive by looking at the bow of the boat you will be behind and make it worse. Just take your time and learn what the boat is telling you.
The Prosport has a light nose compared to the other XB-21's. If yours runs like mine it needs weight in the nose to be stable at high speeds. Even a cleaned out 2+2 has much more weight built into it's nose than we do. I'm still playing with mine and trying to find the right amount of weight for the bow, but for now I keep all the weight in my boat in the bow. I have 120lbs of gear in the nose right now compared to 45lbs of gear behind me (not counting batteries, oil, troller, etc.). I can clean out the nose and don't have issues with it in the mid 80's but when going over 90 it becomes dicey.

This shows it better. A 2+2 vs. a Prosport with both boats cleaned out ready to run. If you zoom in you can see the pockets just barley sticking out of the water in the bow and the transom just out of the water on the ProSport. I stood on the nose of the Prosport (190lbs) and it floated level like the 2+2.

.... Hammer On It..
Hammer on it.... Shoot that'll get me hurt, I done know this, that's why I'm gonna take it nice and slow? No pun intended. XS2NV I do appreciate your offer and will take you up on it when the weather is good, heck I'll even buy you a beer at Bubba Brews if you want one. Best I can tell at full trim I am about 1" below pad. Where do you think is a good starting point for gettin this boat to run good? I am running a trophy 25* 4 blade, looking forward to trying your props but that will have to wait till late spring. I'm not running someone else's prop with so much stuff in the water. I'd still like to meet up with you before then and get a few pointers. Depending on weather maybe tomorrow, Monday or later on in the week.

You don't check prop to pad height at full trim.
Pad level and prop shaft level is when you measure prop to pad height.
You really need to get with someone that can give you a few basics before you throw yourself out of the boat............
