    Shifting problems

250 SHO shifting problem. When shifting to forward or reverse it makes a loud "clunck". Once in gear it's hard to get out of gear. I discounted the shift cable off and it moves freely...so that means it's not the cable binding. Engine is idling at 800 rpm's. Any ideas? Engine has 326 hrs and lower unit has only 30 hrs

    http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread....ting+into+gear

You might want to check this. This happened to me last year. Had a hard time getting into both forward or reverse. Found a washer under the cowling at the front of the motor that was physically blocking it (linkage) from going into both gears although sometimes it would let me go into gear but with difficulty. My motor is a 2000 200HP VMAX OX66 but I'm assuming could be similar. Either way, good luck.

Your engine is idling too high. Check and ensure the throttle cable is fully retacting.

Throttle cable seems ok. Called Yamaha...they said idle 800 rpm's is fine.

800rpm in nuetral or in gear is NOT fine. And thats why it clunks very loud.

It's 800 rpm in neutral. How do you adjust it?

I'll snap a pic later today of the throttle sensor pointer that must lign up when throttle cable is fully retracted. I dont know exact rpm but it should be around 700 rpm in nuetral when motor is warmed up to temp.

This is the throttle sensor at idle possition. The cam is touching the stop. If yours has a gap it needs to be adjusted. Throttle cable can be adjusted at the hot foot or where it attaches to the sensor cam.
It could be why you have a second lower unit.
