    DFI oil question

    Pro Xs 200 1B972754

was just at dealer and he had a gold and blue colored oil for the ProXS. He said to not mix them and I'm not sure what's even in mine? Can the oils be mixed?

I did a search and read some of these but didn't really see if I could mix in case I bought the wrong one.

You have to tell us what two oils you are talking about for us to answer the question.

Ask the dealer for the part numbers of the two oils in question. Any other answer, without this information is true speculation.

Sorry Savage. He just said one was a gold color and the other blue. He asked which one I used and I didn't know there were different oils. The gold colored was $38.75 and the blue $41 per gallon. Bulk of course.

Savage, not to hijack; but I was at a dealership the other day and they didn't have DFI, they had a white bottle that said "optimax". Is this DFI under the Merc branding or is it something different?

    IIR correctly... DFI *is* blue.

You should NOT change from DFI back to "Premium Plus" on the Pro XS. DFI is what you want, period. Now if you bought the boat and don't know what was in it, THEN you can fill with DFI from that point forward, just don't go back to Premium Plus.

Or that's at least what the oil gods have told me.

DFI is not blue, it is brown. (Or I guess you could call it gold)

Premium plus is the blue one.

To eliminate all this confusion, just get the Part Number off the drum next time, so your not guessing what oil it is........Happy Easter!

Something does not add up. DFI is brown, Premium Plus is Blue. Those two are compatible to mix. DFI is more expensive than Premium Plus at every retailer and marina I have ever stepped foot in.

There could also be Mercury 2-stroke racing oil. I do not know its color but there are some oils with which it is not compatible.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Oh crap.....
I know why I was thinking blue, DUH!!!!

It was the last one I put in my (gas) tank last week when I refueled. (Per the "Don Weed Cocktail")

I'll just be over here writing on the chalkboard teacher; "DFI Is brown, and Premium Plus IS BLUE". Will 250 times be enough teacher?

So obviously I need brown/gold from now on. Hopefully it's ok to mix em. That was the question.

Optimax/DFI oil, and Premium PLUS can be intermixed in the tank without concern of their compatibility with each other.

Ya' know... I have no idea why I even mentioned that 'blue' statement. Being as the oil dripping from my oil pump is BROWN!
