    2017 ZX 225

I cannot get no more than 5800 rpms with the manual jackplate set at 7 1/2 holes. Running Yamaha 25 TI prop that came on it. 65 mph all I can get. Motor has 12 hrs. .???? What to do?

Get prop worked. Sounds like a lack of tip cup causing slip. 5800 you should be at least 70.
Lower motor and gain speed but only loose RPM by about 100 will justify the above.
Raise and gain RPM but little or no speed, then the above justified.
Raise and gain both RPM and speed note that but also note the information of your current performance.

Second thought, Tach is off by 400 RPMs (possibility) which would be 5400 RPMs at 65 which is common for your rig.

No matter what the situation is you need the detail to absolutely know that your motor and systems are working correctly. Because if you give false information about speed and RPMs to a prop guy the work will not be as good, especially when you gain RPMs from other than prop modification.

How do you verify tach is working correctly? Who does prop work?

Prop work, my Suggestion is Mark Croxton, for the best results. As far as tach, using a NMEA system is a sure bet. A dealer could tell you also.

I would check the Hot Foot first. Even with a bad prop and the jackplate bottomed out, you should be going way over 65mph. I can hit 65mph with just over 1/2 trim. I think you have something else wrong.

Mark is the only prop guy I use.

I also use the NMEA kit. It's about the same cost as prop work, but it's more important. I recommend you start with the NMEA kit, then try tweaking your set-up. Like Randy said, if you give a prop guy bad information, the work will be bad. I also don't think there's anything wrong with your prop. The T-1 is pretty fast out of the box.

Get a NMEA starter kit and Yamaha Interface cable should be less than $200.

You can raise the plate, you really should just to get more detail about your setup.

Check Hot foot first. My 2016 needed to be adjusted from the factory. I had the same issue.

You don't have to send the prop off, you can pull the prop and check the thrust washer, the shaft and then the barrel of the prop itself for cracks like I've seen quite a few of since mine busted and I started doing a little research...if it isn't there them at least you know that's not it....
