    Emergency - Crown Nut Size?

Bass tournament this weekend! Burnt up hub due to oil leak. Replacing hub on dual axle 2005 Triton trailer for a TR21 boat. Original crown nut destroyed along with hub. The axle is still good, hub in hand, no crown nut to hold the hub on the axle and Triton can't tell us what size it is to even find a replacement crown nut. Anyone know the size of that nut?

I dont know the size but just wanted to offer an emergency solution, you could pop the one off the other side and take it to the auto parts store, hardware store, or Fastenal and match it up. Hope you get it fixed

This ^^^^^ or get a thread gauge and a caliper.. Or a set of dies---try them until you find the one that fits your spindle.. Good luck !!

Thank you all for the insights and ideas. Got it figured out. Found a local machinist who was able to measure the threads and axle diameter. Turns out that the mystery spindle lock nut or crown axle nut is a 13/16" axle nut with a 20 thread count. Sadly, however, try just walking into the local auto parts store and asking for a 13/16" 20 TPI (threads per inch) crown axle or spindle lock nut. Immediately you are asked, what's the part number, what is the year and make. Oh, that's a 2005 Triton dual axle trailer - "we don't sell boat trailer parts." Finally, found a very curious young girl willing to search the system for an axle nut - in my case, it was the local O'Rielly Store, bingo - Part #04994 "Dorman Help! Spindle Lock Nut Kit" a regularly stocked part right on the shelf for any customer to walk in and pick up, take to the counter, pay, and be on your way. No search of the back room top shelf. The only thing in the box that did not work was the washer. Had to fabricate one of those by drilling a bigger hole in an 1 1/2" flat machine washer and I am back on the road. This, by the way, was the same nut nobody in town and no one could figure out the size, or says the local tire shop who said they could fix it in the first place.

    Glad you got it going.
It's amazing how many times the same type scenario you encountered has played out over the years.
There are a few like the young lady you encountered.
I learned years ago to never tell an auto parts salesman (it's for a boat) Most have the same answer -- WE DON'T _____
