thoughts on selling original 1967 Stemco Super Skeeter....

I have a 1967 Stemco Super Skeeter with the original 1967 40HP Johnson. It was bought new at Barber Boats in Dallas, I still have some of the original manuals and I am the second owner.

I would like to sell the rig as I don't need a second boat. Does anyone have any guess or idea as to its worth or value? Is there a market for this boat?

Looks like it is in real good shape for its age. I know several of the guys on here have bought similar boats in alot worse shape just so they could restore them. Might also appeal to a duck hunter. No idea what to ask price wise.

I'll take it! All it will cost you is coffee & donuts for 2.

Honesty, I can remember those old Skeeters & Tarpons back in the 'old' days on T-Bend. Can anyone believe, in this day and time, that they were used as guide boats on lakes like T-Bend & Rayburn

    Good looking boat.

If I were Skeeter, I would be interested in it just for the corporate showroom, etc. Nice boat

Well, after some convincing from my son (also the co-owner) we will keep the rig for the time being. It isn't our primary fishing boat, but still fishes very well.

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

For those of you (like me) that like this type of "old style" bass boat,
there is a small company called Water Moccasin Boats
that still makes a similar boat to the original Skeeter as shown in
this thread. Below is a link and a couple of pictures.

Re: thoughts on selling original 1967 Stemco Super Skeeter.... (gotmy5)

gotmy5 I wish someone would start making a few of those
exact boats again! Those are the boats I grew up on in the 1970's.
I even called the President of Skeeter a few years ago and asked
if he still had the molds to those boats back in some storage yard to
see if I could get someone to make me a brand new one. He said
"no", but was really nice. I think as boats have sky-rocketed in price
there could be a market out there for a smaller fiberglass boat with
an outboard engine with all the gadgets a big boat has.
Plus as my generation gets older we want to sit down in a boat
and fish and not have to stand on some platform. Most people
really dont need those huge (expensive) engines anyway.
I actually think thats one of the reasons the boat industry changed
to the current bassboat design....they couldn't put those huge engines
on the old style boat and the engine is where the money is. Keep
your 19 foot with 200 HP huge bass boat! I'll take one of these
old Skeeter boats any day for comfort, cost, and ease of use.

(I'll probably just buy a Water Moccasin Boat!)

Actually I guess Pro Gator Boats is making a boat
that looks very similar to the original Super Skeeter.

Dite I know it must have been kind of emotional for ya.
When I sold my Skeeter Hawk a few years ago (which I now regret)
it was a very mixed feeling for me. At the time I did not know you
could have it totally restored. But it sounds like you were ready
and the boat got the new home it deserves.

What I have today....and it's a great boat, just not my old Skeeter Hawk!
