Johnson 150hp 1992 Starter Issue, Cables very hot

so anyways i got a nitro tracker off an older guy which has a johnson 150hp (TJ150GLENC)

the boat and motor year is 1992, has been sitting for 4 years.

when i go to crank the motor solenoid clicks, starter does nothing at all and battery cables get very hot right away, even melted neg post on battery right off, quickly.

put new starter on, using brand new battery.

im looking for some suggestions, im starting to think the solenoid/starter may be wired wrong.

    PLEASE HELP!!! Rob

Remove starter from engine hook up battery cables to a battery hood negative to the outside of startersb
?Touch the post for a second to see if bendix pops up and starter spins. If it spins your problem is with your key swtch or solenoid wiring

Does the starter get super hot also, or just the cables?

starter didnt seem to get hot, just cables. solenoid is clicking but no action at all from starter. the guy before me has a different solenoid then the original equipment type.

I would suspect internal corrosion in the battery cables themselves.

Look them over real good for melted insulation.
