Home defense shotgun?

Anybody got recommendations for a 12 gauge home defense gun? I know a lot of people like an AR, but I'd like a 12 gauge as a backup to handguns. I don't want to sound like a prepper, but I also don't want to be an easy mark if some serious shit goes down. Any of the cheaper ones good enough?

I bought an 18" barrel for my Remington 870. When I am not using the regular barrel, I put that on. Sits right next to the bed loaded.

I already have a turkey gun. Not enough rounds and the barrel is way too long. You can put 8 shells in a tactical gun and only have an 18" barrel.

I was just making a suggestion but you can get magazine extensions and barrels.. but I get the never having enough guns deal..lol..

I like the look and size, and that has been on my radar. A lot of reviews criticize the pistol grip, say it makes the gun too hard for women and older people to hang on to when firing. Any experience with that?

Unfortunately not.

I imagine recoil is pretty tough but it's all subjective. I've shot 12ga one handed with 6shot loaded and didn't think it was too bad, but I can imagine the shockwave having some pretty good kick with some 00buck behind it.

This^^^^^ I don't have the 8 round but I have used my maverick for everything (duck, deer, dove ect.) I have had zero issues and have put a couple thousand shells through it with zero issues.
