Evinrude to Mariner

I'm looking at repowering my 94 285 pro xl from the factory intruder 150 to a 99 mariner 175. I have been Trying to find a set of merc controls, cables and harness. Then spoke to a boat mechanic that told me that the control that I have is adaptable to merc cables. It just takes a kit that goes on the control. Anyone heard of this?

I think there was a control box and cables on the for sell board . The guy pull from a older Gambler .
