    Anchor porn

Now that I have your attention

Another anchor/anchor line management option. I like it.

I'm just getting started at this yak thing, but I have an old window sash weight that lays in a groove on my floor. I spray painted it black and bought a $2 rope to hang it with. Not much wind yesterday so I didn't really need to deploy it. That was my first trip out.

Update ... I pretty much followed the video as far as replacing the vinyl covered rope that comes in the spool with something more suitable. I used the alberto knot to join the two ropes instead of the needle and braid method he used (I'll never use all 50' in any of my waters so the knot will never come into play anyhow) ... plus I installed an anchor cleat on the yak to tie off on instead of using the knob on the body of the line holder.

It worked like a champ ... it's so nice not having a pile of wet anchor rope on the floor of the yak to get in the way and get hooks tangled up in.

Is there an achor weight limit before the spring won't successfully retract? Neat idea and definitely cheaper than a product like the anchor wizard. Thanks for sharing

The spring is only strong enough to retract the unweighted rope, in other words as you're pulling the anchor in by pulling the rope with your hands the rope is being wound into the reel by the spring tension. The spring is relatively weak, it couldn't pick a 1 lb weight unassisted. That's why it's important to tie off on something like an anchor cleat or the knob on the body of the line reel so the anchor line is not constantly working against the spring.
