How is the best way to calibrate the steady cast?

This sounds complicated but when you are doing it, there is actually not much to it. I did it with the sensor pointing forward, backward, port, starboard and towards the sky. Every time it calibrated and later maintained the correct heading. Kudos to Garmin for doing it right.

    1. Go to calm open water
    2. Set the display to view heading data from the sensor
That's Charts with the data overlay
    3. Disconnect the sensor from NMEA or turn off power to NMEA
    4. Turn on Power and wait for heading data to appear on the display
    5. Within three minutes complete two full slow tight circles, steady and flat.
When the sensor is prepared to calibrate the compass the heading
data disappears -possible message - heading was lost
    6. Continue for another 1.5 rotations until heading data reappears
    7. Choose one
    -- Go to 8
    or
--If you installed the sensor facing the front of the boat stop turning and wait
two minutes for heading data disappear and reappear
When it reappears compass has been calibrated and no heading offset applied
    8. Continue turning in the same direction at the same speed for approximately
ten seconds, until the heading data disappears from the display.
9 When it is safe, straighten the boat and drive in a straight line at cruising speed until the heading data appears When the heading appears, the compass has been calibrated, and the heading has been aligned on the sensor.

When I got mine there was 6 pages of instructions. It really is pretty simple, just looks intimidating.

Will this work for the 93 EchoMap chirp also. Even with garmin support I have not been able to calibrate mine.

Haven't tried it on that unit but I don't know why it wouldn't work.
