Todd I have a question. If you where a shollow water bass fisherman. 30'of water and less and owned a 93sv chirp. What transducer would you pick as the best for structure and fish.

This is a step in the right direction.

Would Garmin please state that my 93sv, updated with firmware a month ago, will use the DownVu crystal?

    EDIT: https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch...YRA6oQFy5ug9aA answers this question.

    THANK YOU GARMIN!

so let me get this straight. I bought two units, the 7cv and 7sv, both with cv transducers. both have the angled crystals which cover a wider area including under the boat but are better suited for depths to 250 feet. this technology is so good that should I need to replace one of my cv transducers, the only option I have is to buy the older technology gt transducers as garmin does not sell the cv transducers separately.....

    this.....makes no sense

It might if you already knew that the GT transducer gave better detail than the CV... and figured that a knowledgeable buyer would not purposely choose the CV over the GT. There is a lot of history on this kind of thing. After Lowrance came out with DownScan, Humminbirds first answer was to make the down image via software, like the CV. Later they paid Lowrance for the license to produce the down image through a separate down element. So ask yourself, Why would that spend that money?

If the CV transducer was better, they would offer it as a standalone purchase. Point blank, plain and simple. A wider angle means nothing, that's what side viewing is for. I want to see that culvert under the boat. :)

Here's another thing I would like to know. Do the sonar lobes actually overlap? It sure looks like it in the FAQ posted, but I've seen it portrayed elsewhere with a dead spot in-between. It probably depends on the depth which is why it says it lacks in depth performance. So at what depth does the gap appear?

What proof do we have that the GT is better than the CV. I have not seen any comparisons yet.

I have no idea if the gap is there or not or how big it is. I havent tested it.

But should we believe the company (hint - it was Garmin) that tells its customers "no company tells the truth about their products." and "well we never said it was in there in the first place." and who also told every one who asked for the last several months, "There is no difference between the GT and CV transducers. It was just a name change"?

Some how I have my doubts.

I am 100% sure the claim that going backwards, to old, outdated, inferior technology - that every other mfg abandoned years ago - is somehow "better" is 100% BS.

Todd - thanks for the info.
Dtro - I, too, want to know why I did not see the culvert.
MonteSS - Yes, cv/dt side/by/side 'down' pics would be beyond helpful.

Have not pulled the trigger yet - mighta got a mega, were panoptix not in the equation.

Ah, sorry. One manufacturer only abandoned it last year.

But - wait for it - they still abandoned it because it was old, outdated, inferior technology.

I'm sure Todd will give you an answer. My 2 cents on better for structure and fish. GT50 better for structure. GT52 better for fish. Haha!! You wanted one transducer better for both. For the depths you are talking about best all around could be GT52 and its cheaper than the GT50.

No one but humminbird has ever used it so it would be tough for the others to abandon it
