    *&^$(*@#!!!!! Gouged my rub rail

At weigh in, thought my partner had me covered, but I hit the corner of a dock pretty good and took a chunk(about an inch) out of my rub rail. Not all the way down to my gel coat. Not worth replacing the entire rub rail. Any thoughts on how to fill in this hole in the rubber??? And make it look decent.
    Thanks.

The company Im contracted to, the maintenance department pours and forms their own hold down rollers for various repairs within the plant. They purchase a kit to do this with and the durometer of the rubber can be changed according to the application. Im pretty sure they are purchasing this kit from a company like McMaster Carr...

Could cut it out and put in led lights depending where it is. Somethin like the bluewater rub rail blacklights.

Seems like it would be hard to fix and make look as good or better than just having the battle scar. What Thermodude mentioned sounds interesting, I'd think anything less might make it look worse....

Is your rubrail one with the replaceable rubber insert? Most are, so I would just take it out and replace with a new one.

I've heard that using acetone on the rub rail can help "mold" gouges like that closed. I have used small amounts to clean my rubrail in the past, but have never tried using more in this manner. Just thought I'd mention in in case anyone had ever tried this.

Glad it was your rub rail and not your gel coat. That's what it's for!

When that happened to rub rail insert, I replaced it with a 1/2 inch diameter twisted Nylon rope. I have bumped several docks since, and the rope takes it like a champ. One particular dock that I occasionally use is made of steel and sits too high in the water, causing the dock angle bracing corners to hit the rub rail on a bass boat.

Exactly, the rub rail is there exactly for that. Get a few more then change it out to look just like new.

I would never own a boat where I am so worried about it's appearance that something like a gouge in a protective device causes me to get upset.
