Depends on you loads but 85+ in good conditions 2 people, 90 plus solo and set to run hard

I've run 85 with two dudes and gear in a fishing tournament. Sporty is only way to go. Low water pickups so you can run high.

Despite the haters, getting to a spot first, 15 min or more ahead of everyone else has its advantages.

I was wanting to do it but Merc killed my plans " said it would void my warranty" so with the 5 yr platinum and I'm 1 month into it, I just can't take the chance. Dang it.

I can see it voiding the gearcase warranty but it shouldnt effect the rotating assembly. A good dealer should work with you in that case.

Yea kinda what I was thinking. Talked with 4 different people at Merc warranty and customer service and came to the conclusion that it could void my warranty

Legally, I don't think they can void the warranty on the rest of the engine unless the SM caused the failure. Don't take my word on that.
It would probably cost you a lot of money to fight if a failure ever came up also.

I agree with this, I can also say ive never had a instance where Mercury asked my mechanic for anything other than a serial number and a diagnosis. One time he did have the rep look at a block because it had cracked and was leaking oil but that was only because I happened to show up on the day the rep came to visit. Ive also had the rep send him all new injectors to fix a problem as well.

I guess I will be the desenting voice here but I hated having a gearcase with low water pickups on the bottom of the cone like a SM (I was running a coned standard gearcase). It was great if you stayed in deep water but sucked for fishing shallow. I was constantly cleaning trash out of my thermostats. I am running a gen 2 TM now and haven't had that problem, plus it has a better hole shot and mid-range acceleration. Not as fast on top end but still runs into the low 80's which is faster than any other boat I fish against. Believe it or not, I bought my XB-21 as a fishing boat primarily. Nothing against those who are trying to squeeze every last mph out of their boats -- I understand that too!
