Bending shock in main storage box on puma ftd

Has anyone changed the way the shock is mounted inside the main storage box on the front deck of a puma ftd? I've already had to replace it twice because it got bent and I let my buddy use my boat this past weekend for a tournament and he bent the piss out of the shock not realizing that the lid doesn't open a full 90 degrees. Needless to say I need to replace the shock again. Was wanting to find out if anyone has relocated the shock to prevent this from happening and how would you go about doing that?

I have an 11 puma. I shimmed the plate that has the ball connector on it so that is farther away from the divider wall that it is mounted to. The shock arm will still hit if you force it open too far, but it is better than it was.
