I apologize in advance but I am pretty excited. was fortunate enough to get to help test and give feedback on a new frog protype from Megabass that was started on last year. Finally allowed to share the pictures of the final prototypes. Went through a few different prototypes for everyone to agree on the best. Here are 3 of the final versions. I placed them next to the old Pony Gabot and a Spro Bronzeye 65 as a size reference.
The original Pony Gabot had an amazing body design but was a bit small for the US market. I kept asking for a larger version of a MB frog and now I have it. The catamaran head on it allowed it to effortlessly slide over mats, pads and laydowns better than any frog I have thrown. If you fish a frog in the pads you understand how the nose will often dip and foul in the slits etc in the pads. This design fixed that. Its not a popping frog but it is designed to get around and over heavy cover with minimal issues.
The hook is a specially designed 6/0 hook that is simply a beast. It lays down along the back of the frog in small channels to help keep it weedless. They are sticky sharp and have no flex at all. The body is made of the just the right blend of softness but has great durability. The hook and the durability feature were really addressed in this version. They are a heftier blend of plastic but still easily compress on the bite. The hookup ratio of this frog has been pretty great. They are also very good at not taking on water. The cast to squeeze ratio is pretty good.
They cast very easily but where they really shine is how easily they walk with minimal angler input. Amazing action. Its hard to put it down and its been tough not throwing it when I had other people in the boat....
Production should start in the next few weeks and I will have a better idea of colors, names and pricing. Right now that part of it all is still being discussed. In the meantime here is a little frog porn....
