I have an Ardent Apex and it has been a great reel. I have it paired up with a Kistler LTA and love the combo. The reel casts a mile and has a smooth retrieve. I have not had a moments trouble out out of it. I use multiple brands of reels so I am not loyal to any one brand. Not sure what problems Jim had but none with mine. I have used the reel for two years.

I have 12 of them now. Grands, Elites, Apex ones. I have had zero issues with them over the last year. These are the only reels I have actually kept more then a year! I've broke
the drags on all brands but these now

I bought the (can't remember model name) flipping/pitching reels on super sale for $39.99 each and thought I got a deal, but I got screwed! I sold them all in a yard sale for $5. Worst reels I've ever used! They would constantly lose gear and stop retrieving line, and the thumb bar would get stuck and wouldn't release. I won't use Ardent again unless they pay me.

The new Apex versions that came out are the real deal. They aren't the ardent of old. I have about 18 mixture but like the Apex elite best. No issue at all they have a three year warranty. not sure if there are any others that have a warranty like that or not.

No they are no longer made in the USA but as much as it sucks to say, they are better now. The new Apex line is awesome. These are the only reels I fish with now at all. Mostly only the elites and grands. I was holding a grand the other night and picked up a chronarch and was shocked to feel how much lighter the grand was.

I recently acquired a Apex Grand 7.3. It's light & smooth. My only complaint is the handle. If it stops level, with the rod, it digs into my forefinger knuckle while casing. First chance, I'll try a different handle.

I bought four Apex Elite reels two years ago and four more last year. Out of the eight, seven have been great. One of them I have constant casting issues with, sent it back but haven't used it since.

I also have an Apex. It is my topwater reel. I can cast a mile. I had several of them over the years, but this will be the last one.

Got a few Apex elite ones really like them.
They seem to stand up to the punishment of hook sets with braids
