    Prop Shaft

I took my 08 Rude in for its 3 year check up. They told me the prop shaft was 4000th out. Tolerance is 3000th according to the mfg. The insurance claim would be 1300 less my deductible. Dealer said it is probably fine as is. would you fix it or leave it? it does also include prop repair but I ran it all season last year like this.

I would say that it more depends on the prop damage, if you run as is or not. It must not be to bad if you ran it for some time as is. If they didn't find any traces of water in the lower unit oil that's a good thing. If they measured at the end of the prop shaft, the shaft would only be out around .002 at the seal. Anyway that's been my experience.

Pull it out, and send it to Eddie Pope, aka gearcaseman. He can straighten it for you. Got mine to .002.

How good of a indicator did they use ? Been a Tool & Die Maker for over forty years, not all indicators are created equal.

Do you wear a paper bag on your head like the unknown comic did? Just run it like you stole it! Oh boy, Oh boy, O boy, I've wanted to say that since Fred said it. It's happy time here on the yellow brick road.

Must be a lot of old farts on this site (besides me) if they remember the unknown comic. Wasn't he popular back in the days when TV's ran on kerosene?

Oh yes, The Gong Show! My personal favorite was Match Game PM...I don't think anyone other than the contestants was sober!

But hey, at .004" you're probably better than 50% of the BBC gang. RUN IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!
