    Motorguide xi5 prop won't turn

Ok got my xi5 80 installed yesterday. After I got it installed plugged it in to test. Deployed it everything came on and worked as it should. I stowed it and started to put everything back together. Deployed it again all lights come as they should turn the prop on and nothing. The light comes on shows the prop on you can change the speed I get the beeps from high to low settings on speed. Turn the prop by hand turns smooth just a little friction from the magnet.
    Im completely lost any ideas??

Chrischap, did you charge your trolling motor batteries while the Xi5 was plugged in? I did that and it killed the Xi5 circuit board. Had to have the circuit board replaced. Always unplug the Xi5 when charging or messing with the trolling motor batteries.

No batteries were charged prior to installing it.

You have apparently lost power to your motor but not the module. I'm not a MG specialist it's easy to see, but if you have a large red and large black wire going into the top of the shaft under the top cover, I think you should have 24 volts on them with the motor set to "Run" and the foot switch on. I'll sit by and try to learn from some better than me in this case.

Yes both wires going down the shaft have 24v on them. I pulled the top cap and checked that.

Does the 24V stay there when you try to operate the motor?

If you're getting 24+V on the wires going to the lower unit with the motor on, then you need to take it to a Motorguide service center for repairs. Sounds like this is a new trollingmotor, and for warranty purpose, you don't need to be diagnosing over a forum.

Spoke with motorguide they suggested a hard reset by unhooking the negative battery cable. I'll try that when I get home. If that doesn't work send it back to the dealer. Disappointed is an understatement!!

I believe that what John is saying, is that since it's new, you don't want dig into it too far as to make sure you don't do something to void the warranty or make things worse.

Why didn't I think of that? Probably because I don't pay anybody to do what I can do myself. Sounds like the thing to do.

    Awesome !
I had a small problem with my remote that probably wasn't even their fault and they sent me a new one.
    Great customer service

They may have good customer service but they have to with the junk trolling motors they are making now. My fishing partner has a 9 month old x5 and it has been nothing but constant problems.

They told me to take it to a service dealer and it would be covered under warranty. They replaced the head because it had warped due to heat and a,new circuit board but sometimes the trolling motor still shuts down and has to be unplugged to get it to reset. They stood behind there product but I was asking for a money refund to go and buy another product. That didn't happen.
