    Basic setup question

With a hydraulic jack plate, how often, if ever, do you need to be able to lower it so that you are in the 6-7-inch below pad range, prop-to-pad distance? Seems extreme but what do I know? Trying to figure the best holes to be in for mounting motor to JP, and how that affects height or depth relative to JP function.

typical best running starting point is 3.5 if that helps. seems like 6-7 inch would be way to deep for use any time. JMO

Yes, I should have said when I reset everything with the new jackplate I'll start @3.5 and I expect it'll end up pretty close to that if its anything like it was before all this work. I'm mainly trying to figure out what hole to have it in and how that affects min and max depth.

I can't imagine you'd ever be shallower than 2" or deeper than 6". Why not adjust the plate where 3.5" is in the middle or is that what you're doing?

yeah, that's the idea. I'd rather have more of the slider plate in the slides on the jack plate, rather than less, given the choice. Even if it's just 3/4 - 1" more of the plate in the slides, if it doesn't affect max or min height very much, I'm going to set it up so that more the plate is in the slides when I'm in that normal usage range around 3.5, give or take.

It's basically this - if I use the 3rd hole from the top, when I'm at 3.5 below pad, I'll have 3/4 to 1 inch more of the plate in the slides than if I use the 2nd hole from the top, but I won't be able to set it any lower than about 6.25 below pad if I do that, which seems perfectly fine from what you all are saying.

I've never had to lower my motor that far! In fact, I have never lowered it more than 4" below.
