"Travel light, freeze at night". Wasn't infantry, but did a fair amount of "camping".

I spent 20 years in the Infantry, truer words were never spoken.

Another thing we used to say was: why does every battle take place at night, in the rain, where the corners of four map sheets come together.

Infantry Soldiers are the greatest of all warriors. When I see the CIB I know what the guy's went through.. I Salute all of you. I was in the 249th General Hospital in Camp Drake, Japan for 5 months with Infantry Soldiers and a few Navy guys as well.

I carried the skill identifier S for several years. Then SF got their own branch and it changed to 18 series. I was at Bragg from 72 to 75 then 84 to 86. I'm sure we walked over the same ground many many times.

Does the Infantry wear beret's now? I thought that was set aside for Special Forces. And yes all those smiles will be wiped away once they hit the ground in combat.

The airborne infantry wears berets. Not sure about the straight leg infantry.

Back in my day the only branch of the Army that were allowed to wear a beret was the Special Forces. The Green Beret. Every branch has it's purpose and not one is better than any other. I know thing's have changed a lot sense my time. SF use to have a 111. MOS as did the Airborne and Ranger. All that may have changed by now. I know I was and still am very proud of my service if I was called up at 74 I would answer the call. That is how much I love the Army. I have alway's treated all branches of our military respectively the same. If you served you served, it didn't have to be in combat are any special unit.
