    Impeller Pump

When changing the impeller pump on a 1993 Evinrude Intruder 150 is it always necessary to replace the housing as well?

No you can change just the impeller but for another $25.00 you get the whole shebang.

Bear in mind that any imperfections in the inside surface of the housing can negatively affect water flow. Abrasive elements in the water passing through the pump can roughen or create pits in the housing. Don't know your budget, but a new housing might be worthwhile.

The stainless steel impeller cup and the bottom plate have to be smooth and without ridges or grooves in them. If you can feel any marks with your fingernail, replace with a complete factory water pump kit.
