Leave them on. Also on a side note, all lures I cut off while fishing are kept in the cup holder. I don't put them away for a day or two so that they can dry off before putting them back in the boxes. Don't want them to rust.

I retie everything the night before a derby. That way I don't have to wonder if I should retie when I make the cast. I'm thinking about other stuff at that point.

I've always retied anything on mono, esp. light lines. It definitely weakens over time but I don't know exactly how fast.
I retie everything before a tournament except braid and retie often baits that contact the bottom, especially around rocky banks.
I use light line so it's important to retie often. After each trip I cut the lures off. This forces me to pre-examine where I am going to fish the next time out and plan which baits I want on to start. Once on the water I may scrap all my baits and retool if the conditions warrant.
I am home a month at a time. I leave lures on from day to day re tie as needed. But then I am gone for a month working, everything comes off at that point. Along with loosing all my drags on reels.
I retie expensive lures more than cheap ones.
I'll retie after 5-6 fish, or when fishing heavy cover with mono or fluorocarbon. Lures stay tied on between trips though.
