New 200 G2 on an old ranger

Well I have to put a new engine on the Ranger. There was just too much wrong with the Johnson (controls, power tilt and trim, powerpack, and melty stator, it became time. Anyone repower with the 200 G2 yet and any advice or learnings would be appreciated... also did you see an major Prop changes?

86 inches has put one on his older Champion. He couldn't use the hot foot due to mounting issues in the drivers area. You may want to IM him, he's also had some rigging issues, he can give you the full story.

Still below freezing here in up-state NY with about 12 of snow still on the ground, but the boat is at the shop and in a few weeks the new G2 200HO will be on it. I'm upgrading all new controls, new gages, steering and new fuel lines. I will post pictures and results when we start the prop testing. My guess is ice out will around tax day. First tournament April 29th.

With the ten years of factory protection, your new motor would be worth quite a bit more because you can offer the remaining coverage if you trade it in or sell it.

No doubt my boat value is all in the engine now but it is such a great fishing platform and I KNOW it has 20 years of life in the platform. Since I'm not selling it any time soon, It is well taken care of and to get something comparable new has got to be $55K.

    Status report:

Old Venom is off the boat, new fuel lines run, new gages in place, new controls mounted, new wiring installed new hydraulic steering run. Oil tank is out and old fuel drained. Old engine still compression tested strong and the shop will be parting it out. Their Opinion is that most of the problems were coming from the boat wiring and damaging the engines electronics. I'm not smart enough to know if that is possible or not.

They are upgrading the fuel senders because I have dual tanks and I guess the new gages need this.

Engine ships soon. Someone at BRP I guess is asking for before info and after pictures / results.

Would you mind sharing what you paid for the engine and install? I am considering removing my etec 250 from my 2520 parker and going with twins. So far the prices have been outrageous. I'm considering the G2 200HO but the quoted prices have ranged from $49,900.00 to $56,000.00. The Parker is a very easy boat to rig so I have been totally shocked by the prices.

I can't post pricing here, as it isn't my place to share this in open forum but anyone can type in dealer cost outboard engine and you can get a level of info but also bigger dealers get costs based on total hp sold per year. Well they used to years ago.......

I would say dealer costs is a good place to start and know dealers have other costs.

Remember you're adding a second motor so you need extra everything. Plus the extra cost of the 25" shaft. Is that Shield's prices?

    Agreed,

the engine while the big ticket item isn't necessarily where might see the difference. The Dual Binnicle with the RPM bump system I Think I over 3K. Add in the Harnesses Gages, It Climbs quick. Also which screen and steering option can make a difference.

I did Icommand Gages and no touch screen for the looks and no Link to the phone.

The highest price was Auer in Ft. Walton. The lower price was Indian Pass. Have not priced Shield's, he was so much higher than anyone else when I bought my 250 G1 I had not bothered with him. What I am thinking about doing is finding later model G1 250 and using mine for the twin set up. What sucks isI can get twin 225 yams installed out the door for $38,789.67

Off Thread, What Yammies? Not the SHO as those are only 20". If your looking at the F225 good reliable offshore engines, but not in the same class as the G1 for Torque and performance and really really not in the same universe as the G2 (my opinion). Also I think the counter rotation for twins is only on available on 200 and 250 unless you go with the larger block.

They are 225, I was told they are the same block as the 225,250,300s. Not really considering that option. In the panhandle of Fl ETECs are almost none existent, not sure they will ever get much of the market when there is that much difference in the pricing, and I hate that. As for my options if I can't find a 2014 or newer low hour 250 I will just continue to use my rig as it is.
