    Yamaha hpdi lower unit education

My 03 250 hpdi lower kaboomed on me and I'm on the hunt for a used one. Can someone tell me what years and sizes would work for me? I'm thinking maybe I could find a motor with a bad block and buy the lower from it. In my mind, I'm thinking that any hpdi 200-300 hp should bolt up, but was wondering if the same would be true of the ox66 units of the same size.

If if anyone has one or has a lead on one, let me know.

All of the 3.1L and 3.3L will interchange, But you need to realize that your motor has 1.75 gears and some others have 1.81's.

You might also look into SEI. I have a good friend who has one on his rig and has been more than happy with it. Plus you cant beat their warranty. You'll find reviews both good and bad, however on an older motor I would not hesitate to install one.

Unless SEI started making a hpdi low water pickup unit you will have to use the 3.1l unit, and on a 250 I would keep track of your warranty papers. Like Mike said the 3.1 I don't think is available with the 1.75 like you need. I picked up a HPDI lower from fleabay and it has been running good. Check with Hydro Tec on a rebuilt unit. Cj

    The 250 3.1 ox66 has 1.75 gears. Not the 200 and 225, They have 1.81

Hope you have better luck than my brother did on his. SEI replaced 2 in one year. After #3 he traded for the new four stroke 300's.

Good to know, I would not trust a SEI unit on anything in the higher HP ratings. That is where I have seen the most complaints. CJ

Yea I don't have personal experience with SEI lowers.....only through a good friend of mine on his boat. Let's hope I never need one (crosses fingers)

I have a newly rebuilt 225 HPDI lower unit from a Yamaha Certified shop. It is the same unit as on your motor. It has 2 hours on it and I lost my powerhead. Gonna part out the motor. PM me your number and we can talk.
