    Ranger RT198P Yamaha 150 SHO

Picked up my new ride today!! It has the 150 SHO with 4 inch Atlas JP and a Yamaha SHO 22p prop. Got the initial two hours of break in done and ran another half hour before loading it up. Opened it up and hit 59.2 gps trimmed half way up and the jp all the way down and hitting 6,000 rpm's. I'm thinking I may need a 24 p prop. The boat handles great!

That sir, is one very nice looking set up. I am impressed.

I think the SHO can turn 6300 RPMs so I might play with the prop I have and see what happens before trading it in. I am like you that I believe you may have to go up in pitch some but going from a 22 to a 24 will surely bring down the RPMs quite a bit. These Yamaha motors like very much to run at top end of their RPM range. That's where they need to be. Consider the weight you might add, a fishing partner, fuel level, live well, how you will use the boat most of the time, amd weather also ----- then look at the type of prop. They really really like the upper end of their RPM range.

Panama is right on the money. The Mercs come with a 23" Tempest, so I'd leave that prop until the end of the break in. 59.4 is mighty fine for less than 5 hours.

Nice boat! How well does it hold in the wind? Debating on a this or a glass rig for bigger lakes....

Haven't had it out in any windy conditions yet. It does sit flat in the water and is 1300 lbs. It's only 200 lbs lighter than my old Ranger 188vs so don't expect the wind to be a problem. I will report back

Ilbassin, it's been windy the last two days. In my opinion, the boat handles the wind pretty good. It doesn't blow around much more than my old Ranger. Got in some rough water too and it cut right thru. You will get some water spray though. I'm more impressed with the RT198P every trip out.
