Helix 12 Chirp SI GPS Transducer

Am upgrading by adding a Helix 12 at the console and moving the 1199 to the bow.
Have an older transducer on the transom that originally came with a 998 a number of years ago.
Model number is the same that came with the 12 Chirp.
Should I replace it with the newest transducer?
Not sure if Chirp depended on the transducer.
    Thanks.
    Jim

They are the same transducer. BUT transducers wear with use since they vibrate so to get the best performance for a new unit, a new transducer is best.

CHIRP 2D would be no different other than the transducer age.

Mounting the skimmer transducer. Instructions with the Helix 12 say to mount 1/8-1/4" below bottom of the boat. I had the 1199 transducer mounted about 1" above bottom (safety?). Should I move it down? Didn't get any side interference before, but will this help image? Thanks!

Side clearance for the SI pulses is all that is required for Side Imaging.
The transducer only needs to be below the bottom of the hull for on-plane Depth/2D sonar.
