    What turkey load?

I traded for a like new Mossy Oak Break-up Remington 870 Special Purpose Super Mag a couple of months ago. I have been hunting with one of my 3.5" autos the last couple of years, but I just like the way a 870 packs. What shells do you guys recommend? I am not going to put much effort into patterning the gun. I will check to see if it shots where I point it. I usually shoot Winchester Supreme 5 or 6's. Thanks in advance.

We've been comparing different loads last 2 weekends in a 12 gauge BPS 24" with extra full turkey choke.

    1. Winchester Longbeard XR, #5 shot, 3" - consistently puts the most pellets in our turkey target kill zones.
    2. Hornady Magnum Turkey, #5 shot, 3"- very good results also, just not as good as the Longbeard XR, but still very good, plenty enough to get a bird.
    3. Fiocchi Golden Turkey, #4 shot, 3" - surprisingly very poor results, I was expecting better from these, as I am a big fan of Fiocchi ammo in general.

Next Week we are testing these other loads when the UPS truck arrives with the new ammo.

    1. Winchester Longbeard XR #5 , 3.5"
    2. Browning #5 XR Turkey loads #5, in both 3 and 3.5"

I suspect the Browning and Winchester are basically the same loads since Winchester and Browning belong to the same company.

I am a big fan of Fiochi duck shells, but I don't really care for their turkey loads either.

I'm using a Moss berg 835 ulti-mag, with a jelly head extreme choke, with winchester long beard xr, #5'so in 3 inch. They patterned the best for me out to 60 yards.

Ive had deadly results with a 3", 2 oz load of #7 Hevi 13 pellets. Puts over 240 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards with a .660" Indian Creek choke. Shotgun is Mossberg 535 with a 20" barrel.

Im going to pony up a few $ and try the new TSS (Tungsten Super Shot) this year, Federal and Browning now off this load. Very expensive though, basically $7 per shell, ($37 for a 5 pack) But the engineering behind it and the results as tested lead me to think this is the real deal...…………………………….or should I say Game changer.

I’ve used 3” longboard #5 out of moss berg model 88 and also A300 beretta and both work great. Other than that I reload my own 3” 12gauge. Last year loaded #7 shot and it work very well.

I used Federal Heavyweight shells with a Carlson choke for several years. The heavyweight shot provides much better penetration than lead shot. However, I recently switched to Winchester Long Beard XR #5 with a Trulock Long Beard choke. The Long Beard shells with Trulock choke gave much tighter patterns. Close range pattern is so tight that some type of sight is needed to avoid misses. The new Federal TSS shot shells would probably be the best long range shells, but very expensive.
