    73sv

My first sonar was a Low HDS 5, I still have it and love it.
My next one was Humminbird Onix, I am in the process of learning it.

My club guys are all Garmin Quickdraw fan and we have around 6 guys with Garmins,

So, I want to get a Garmin with Quickdraw and built in Maps, club guys suggested 73sv. The aim is to map new lakes and share the map with my club guys.

I am totally a Garmin noob, other than having lived close to Olathe, KS and have a few friends at Garmin.

Could someone please help me with the following questions:

    1. Do I need side imaging for Quickdraw?
    2. Do I need a CHIRP unit for Quickdraw?
    3. How do I go about sharing Quickdraw maps of lakes?
    4. How fast can I troll for Quickdraw to work?

    4. Quickdraw will work up to 25mph, as long as when using Quickdraw the map shows the green circlea around your boat, you're good.
I doubt Quickdraw gets good results at 25mph,,, IMO.

    Cheers..

You can also share Quickdraw by just merging the files from one card to another

Yup, there will be a Quickdraw folder inside the GARMIN folder. Just copy those files to the other units Quickdraw folder and they will have your maps.

When you record maps with autodraw, how do you tell which lake is in which folder?
Are the folder names the gps coordinates?

I saw Cabelas had the non-chirp model on sale a month back, I missed it.
Is the 73 SV the best bang for the $$$ or should I look at the different model?

If you have a friend that works at Garmin, buy it through your friend and get the employee discount. Get the CHIRP model because you'll still pay way less than retail for a non-CHIRP. I have a 73sv non-chirp I got at Cabelas earlier this year on sale that I'm really happy with at the bow and a 53 CHIRP that I got through my buddy at the wheel. I really like both units so far. I haven't used quickdraw yet because all the bodies of water around me are mapped since I live really close to Garmin's HQ.
