Power difference in the GLX 854 JWR and 894 JWR

I know these two rods are rated the same but I can't help but wonder if the GLX 894 JWR doesn't have a bit more power too it than the GLX854 JWR.Anyone have them both as a comparison?

I know the NRX894C seems to have a bit more power than the NRX 854c.

It's the same in the GLX line, the 894 has more power than the 854, maybe not a full power, but it's definitely a 1/2 power at least in my hands.

    Thanks Gary.

So an ideal 3/8-1/2oz jig rod?

Just trying to decide what I want to pair the 844 with.

Both of those rods will fish a 3/8 to 1/2 oz jig just fine. It's more a length and power preference. If you're fishing heavier cover or deeper water most often, the 894 is the better bet. If you'd rather have a rod for skipping docks or need a shorter rod the 854 is just fine. I prefer the 894 either way.

bronzefly- would the 893glx be an option. It is stronger in the tip then the NRX version. OP indicates the 894NRX was way more powerfl then he needed in the waters he fishes. I'm thinking the 854 may still be too stout. Makes me think he needs a strong 3power.

I missed where Jake wrote that the 894 was too powerful. In that case, the 854 may be the way to go. The 893 in the GLX line fishes with a little more power than the 893 NRX to me, but with a 1/2 oz jig plus trailer that's the upper limit for me, cover or not. I just prefer more power fishing a 1/2 oz jig plus trailer than whats in the 893, others may think it's just fine...

I have both but they are both the older recoil versions. In mine, the 894 is a beast of a rod. Flipping big creatures on x-heavy hooks, 3/4oz football jigs, any flipping jig with as big of a hook as you can find kind of rod. 854 is what I'd call a heavy worm rod. 1/4-3/8 oz Texas rigged plastics, finesse jigs in the 5/16-3/8 range... 1/2 oz spinnerbaits. In these older rods at least, the difference of the FPRs and the BCRs seem to be about 1 power rating per marking. I don't have any of the butterfly split grip GLX to compare but across the board Loomis seems slightly softer than it once was.

Ever try the 873 nrx. It is a bit lighter than the 894 and has a bit more length than the 854.

I did handle the 873nrx last week at a tackle shop.I was a little lighter in power than the 894 for sure but didn't feel like the tip was right for jigs.I have a mbr 84glx on the way from TT that I'm going to try for a while.

I have an 894 nrx, 893 nrx, 894 new glx. Havent fished the glx yet but it seems a bit stouter than the 894 nrx. I throw 1/2 jigs on fluoro with the 894 and 1/2 jigs with braid on 893. A big bass is 5 lbs up here and never had an issue with either rod as far as control or accuracy. I think they could be the best contact rods ever made....the 893 also gives you the flexibility to throw buzzbaits, traps in grass etc Your biggest challenge will be owning just one. I have mine paired with metanium reels.
