I heard a rumor years ago, that there were more 4 pd bass per acre
    at Columbus than the pickwick.
any body care to weigh in?

That bad, huh? I don't have to fish it for keeps for 3 weeks so hopefully it will clear up a little. The areas I'm planning on keying on should be semi protected from muddy water(fingers crossed). Just trying to figure out if there will be any fish left on the beds in 3 weeks or if its going to be 100% post-spawn. I feel like I'm going to be in better shape with post spawn fish anyway.

There was a benefit tourney a couple weeks ago before the rain and cold that had about 35-40 boats in it. probably 30 had limits. 18 lbs or so to win and 7th was the last paying place at 13 and change. Numerous 5 lb'er caught. My son and I went last Wednesday afternoon to try and see if we could possibly entice a 5 lber to hit. It was a fairly slow bite, but in a couple hours we actually got about 10 bites and caught 4, with the largest being about 4 and two other keepers (over 14) We fished mostly in the pits and water temp was around 62. Clarity in the pits was decent and not muddy. I swore off that place, but the chance at sticking a 5 was too good to pass up. I haven't seen weights like that on Columbus in 20 years, and most of them were lock down weights. BTW, only 4 boats locked down during the tourney, so most, if not all of them came off Columbus pool.

To answer your question, there will probably still be a few on beds like md said, but I think the majority probably did their thing on this moon cycle, but I'm probably wrong. That's the thing, when it comes to Columbus, throw all conventional wisdom out the window. It's a completely different animal.

Columbus has gotten much better in the last couple years so I guess the 14" slot we all fussed about for so long actually worked. The last time I fished a tourney there I had 15 lbs on a very fun frog bite. I should have had better than that. They were destroying a ribbit frog. The last time I was just fishing there I tore up my lower unit in a place I had ran through 25+ times in my life. So it doesn't matter to me that it's good again because I have sworn to never put my boat in any lake below smithville. So you guys can have it.

I know Columbus has some decent potential, I caught a few good ones during prefishing for a fall tournament.....just never more than 1 good one a day over 5-6 trips. Then I knocked a hole in the bottom of my boat and spun my prop and had a fat zero when tournament time rolled around. I'm hoping to avoid a repeat of that.
