    Depth finder dilemma

Ok finally ordered the ultrex!!! Here is my situation. I have 2 998s ethernetted together v6180 software which I love. Can l run 6180 at console then update bow unit to most recent update and connect that to ultrex thus disconnecting Ethernet cable. Or can I connect everything together with different software versions?

If you have the Link version, only XXX9 and newer units running latest software will be compatible with the Ultrex. You will get some of the older capabilities like additional storage, itrack, prop control. Even with the remote, there are a few newer functions that are only initiated on the fish finder. You can avoid installing an Ethernet switch by connecting the ultrex direct to the unit if you want.

Thanks!! I did order the link model! So my 998 won't work with the ultrex?

It only has some basic stuff available as mentioned in the above post. I still run a 998 along with two Helix models and not hard to see the differences...LOL Just one example, the circle mode cannot be run from the 998. Some of the setup modes aren't visible on the 998 either.

Here's a couple of screen shots from the 998 and then a Helix for comparison

Since I'm picking your brain, the spot lock and jog features work independently of the depthfinder?

Yes..that's correct. You can initiate both from the remote. Follow the contour, circle modes are two that come to mind that have to be initiated from the fish finder

Does the goto function work from the 998? In other words could I select a waypoint created on the 998 and have the ultrex take me to it?

Sorry...don't know for certain but believe so. That's about it other than limited motor functions like speed and prop on/off. I already had a Helix12 on boat at time of the Ultrex install so didn't spend a lot of time with the 998/1198 after seeing the Ulterra showing in the menus...LOL
