I have a 98 201pro elite with a 225 johnson. Anybody with this same set up know the mpg? I know it is not good. I have a tournament coming up and thinking about a 60 mile round trip run. Im not sure I can do it. Thoughts?

If you run midrange 3500 to 4000 rpms I'm guessing you will avg. 1.3 miles gallon.
i had a 362 v ranger and 150 johnson 150 gt. Full throttle i ran 17 miles and avg 1.1 mpg.
went to 05 stratos 201 pro xl and 250 Yamaha ox efi and i get twice the mileage than the gt. I was skeptical at first but technology has changed alot. I will say i like carbs for easy maintenance and was told by mechanic that the carbs wasted gas but did help to add extra oil in the chamber.
Yea I don't think I ever saw over 2mpg with my Ficht at anything above 4000 rpms.
I thought my mpg would lessen going to a bigger boat and increasing 100 hp. Boy I was surprised it was less
I have what I'm assuming is a similar setup. 98 201 PE W/ 97 225 Johnson and a 52 gal tank. I've never checked actual mpg but I wouldn't bat an eye at 30 miles out and 30 back. She likes fuel for sure but I've gone north of 70 miles round trip and not been near the bottom of the tank.
Thats just my personal experience. How you drive the boat, weight in the boat, and overall conditions can make a big difference I imagine.
2 minutes of run time at WOT/ 1 gallon seems to be pretty accurate for how I'm setup and how I drive.
Interesting I did not think my tank was that big, it is the same year boat though..
Thanks! Was that at wot?
There was some WOT in there but I was running mostly around 5000 rpm. I typically run more wide open than I did this weekend. There was a little bit of everything in there. One or two wide open runs, several runs in 5000 rpm range, a couple slower runs, and a couple miles idle speed.
WOT gals/hr = approx 10% of HP. So 1hr = approx 22.5 gal. If you run 60 mph, then you would burn approx 22.5 gals to run 60 miles.
No matter what technology, it is close to this.
Staying out of the throttle to where you hear the throttle plates just start to open will be your best MPG.
I have made some long runs with an old OMC crossflow. Best fuel economy was around 4500 RPM and 3/4 trim. You can hear the sound change in the motor when you start exceeding this range and she will start to drink like a sailor.
I have a '97 Stratos 201 ProXL DC with a 2000 Johnson 225 HO. I fish Kentucky Lake alot and sometimes run 40-60 miles one way during tournaments. I have a 50 gal capacity gas tank and that is usually plenty. I run 4500-5000 rpm (55-60 mph) on the way out and usually run about 4000 rpm(50 mph) on the way back. I leave with enough time usually, but not also. At 4000 rpm and trimmed properly i estimate 2.1-2.4 mpg, at 5000 rpm i get about 1.7-1.9 mpg. For me if im running too far, im not fishing enough so i usually try to find fish within 10-20 miles from the ramp we're using. I have run from the dam to New Johnsonville and back, had to get gas on way back at Paris. Thats about a 140 mile round trip. Weather, temperature, and water conditions are also big facotors.
Ross calculations seem dead on when I fished kerr lake 2 years ago. It was right at 60 miles.
There is no way I got 2.25 mpg with my old Ficht. I'm sure I had motor issues though. Nowadays I can cruise at 4700 rpm at 55 mph and get over 4 mpg...how times have changed
made the trip with a little over a quarter of a tank left after moving from spot to spot also.. Ran it pretty hard both ways but not wot.. @5200 rpm.. was cruising @ 60mph
