    Ranger rt178

    Ranger rt178
Anyone out there have a rt178 with a 25 hp etec? I know i know way underpowered but where im at its all hp restricted lakes. What prop are you running? What is your top speed? Looking to get as fast as i can. Think of it as a restrictor plate NASCAR race every tiny bit helps I'm currently running the factory 12 pitch Evinrude prop. I'm only running 4900 RPMs so I needed to drop pitch to get those up and 20 miles per hour top speed with two guys and tournament loadout any suggestions are welcome.

With a jp it's to low. Try lifting motor up 1 hole and see what that does.
I have a 6" jp and I'm at 4-3/4" (centered prop to bottom of keel). You should be anywhere at 5" to 5-1/2" with a 4" jp.
Evinrude aluminum props flex a lot. Since your needing a good pushing prop. Try the SSP.

How does she run with the 25hp? I am not much of a speedster and the price between a 25 and a 70, 90 or 115 is significant.

    Oh I only wish you could put a 90 or 115 on a 178.

    That's pretty decent for a 25!

75 & 90 hp Etec are basically the same motor. Both put out about 82 hp
If you are going Etec the 75 is a good choice for this boat. Also Etec now has a 60 hp HO that is the same I3 power head.

I have a RT 178 with a 2018 Etec 75 with a 13.5x15 3 blade aluminum. I drove 2.5 hrs one way to pick this boat up , got there and it wasn't ready for me . So I waited patiently . Took the boat home only to find it will not Rev over 2000 RPMs.
