Well I'm sure I'm not the first. Change fuel filter and removed bolts on "rod" to get filter out instead of removing linkage rod. Can I reset the "TPS" myself or should I just take it to the shop

Make sure the key is OFF.
Make sure the Link Rod is OFF.
Install sensor assembly, with one-drop of red loctite on the screws. Just before the screws draw down, make sure the sensor is "centered" in the screw holes (rock counterclockwise and then clockwise to get an idea of center).
Snug screws down evenly, reconnect link rod.
Turn key on (it should auto-adapt at keyup and startup... that's why throttle MUST be at idle when starting).

I know this is an old thread but would a bad TPS keep my engine from going WOT? I idles fine, however, it's pretty sluggish getting on plane and can only get 4900 RPM. 2018 Mercury 250 Pro XS
Possibly, not likely
Check the basic
