    Ranger 185vs prop advice

I have an '03 185vs with a 150 Vmax. I currently run a 23m prop. By myself the prop will easily hook up and take off. But add another adult and kid and i have to feather the throttle and trim to get it hooked. If we slow down going over some wakes, I have to trim down and start all over.

Once hooked up the speed is in line with the rpms. 3500rpms=35mph. 5500rpms=55mph. Max speed is 58mph at 5800 rpms.

When unhooked I'll be running 35mph at 4200 rpms.

The other day with another adult and our 2 kids(180#s) i never could get it to hook. Motor was slinging 5500rpms and running 46mph.

I have a 6" jackplate and current prop is set at 3-3.5" prop to pad.

Do most props do this and its just something you have to deal with or is a $300 prop change the answer?

If that prop is in good shape it shouldn't have a problem hooking up at that height. Are you sure you are measuring correctly? If so,I'd say the prop needs some work. The cup can wear off with time and cause it to lose bite.
