    Devil's Horse

I've never collected or even paid much attention to Devil's Horses but I thought this one was really pretty. Don't remember seeing one in rainbow.

Donnie-does it have spots on the other side of it like a Rainbow Trout? I've got one somewhere around here very similar but does have the spots so just wondering my Friend. Thanks

No Eddie it does not have the spots. I don't remember seeing one in rainbow with spots either. I was going through some stuff the other day and found 3 more of those model A bombers in Ozark shad. Take care my friend.

Ed, Could that one you have with spots be a Spotted Ape? Pretty sought after, I think.

No Sir...it is a Rainbow Trout I believe. I know the Spotted Ape and have several Smithwicks in that color, including a little Bo Jack. And yes, it is a sought after color in everything Smithwick painted it in. I asked the owner of Bacon's Tackle Shop in Shreveport one time why the SA was such a sought after color. I thought, since Jack Smithwick had given him his tackle box before he passed away and since his father was founder/owner of Ol' Ben's Tackle, that he might know why. Not sure if his reply was insightful or joking, but he said he guessed because it was hard to paint!

I will also say that if anyone is ever in Shreveport, LA; that Bacon's on Flournoy Lucas Rd. is a must see while in town. It is a museum/tackle store where one can see a good representation of Shreveport's rich historical contribution to the lures we love to fish. At one time, not only Smithwick, but Ol' Ben's and Tackle Industries were in full swing in the town. Really neat to go in there. Not a very big store at all, but he has a lot of stuff packed in a small place!

That's a pretty good color I'd imagine Blubird.

I have 1 just like it from a old box I bought at Goodwill. Cool color.
